This event aims to promote the potential of the Copernicus Earth observation (EO) data and services, addressing the communities in the Central Europe region. It will provide an unique opportunity to bring together developers, entrepreneurs and topic-specific experts in order to develop new added value.

Detailed description

The Copernicus Hackathon will give you the chance to come together with others and to explore many application fields here on Earth with free and open space data from Copernicus.

Together with other participants you will get an access to Copernicus data,  DIAS cloud service platforms, support from mentors with the possibility to join two preparatory webinars and compete for set of attractive prizes.

In contrary, organisers would like to encourage interested participants coming from private, public, academia and research, non-governmental sectors as well as individual enthusiasts to register and propose project ideas they would like to develop or use their expertise and skills joining work on other project teams.

Emphasise on development of apps with Copernicus data

Project ideas shall include the Copernicus data in order to fulfill main objective of the event, preferably targeting the event topics, but the participants are free to also introduce any other topic of their interest.

FAQ:

1. Who should consider to register?

Any enthusiasts (above 18 and resident of one the following countries (EU Member States + Norway and Iceland)) willing to show, what can be done with available data and technologies as well as anybody with the interest in improvement or sharing the knowledge with related topics is more than welcome. Based on the offered different skill sets and capacity limitations, Organisers are free to limit the number of seats based on evaluation of the registration proposals in order to ensure appropriate mix of skills during the event.

2. Why should I register?

Well, there might be various motivations, but the common denominator shall be Copernicus and willingness to  to demonstrate there is potential behind. And of course meet new people and spent two days in Bratislava, Slovakia.

3. Do I need to have a team?

No. When the Hackathon kicks off, you’ll have the chance to pitch your idea to all participants, or to join a team you find interesting. Organisers will assist participants to team up, where needed in order to ensure that each team is composed of participants with a mix of relevant skills. ( Ideal teams have 4-5 members).

4. What will be the expected outputs?

The expected output shall thus go beyond mere concept presentations. The preferred outcomes can be in the form of applications, services, APIs, newly derived datasets and app concepts / draft developments.

5. How much it will cost?

Participation is free of charge.

6. Who else is going to be there?

To provide the support for the hackathon participants, group of mentors with expertise from relevant set of domains will be on place in order to provide the guidance, where needed. Evaluation of the outcomes from the projects established during the hackathon will be undertaken by the Jury board.

PS: In connection to registration participants shall accept Rules of participation and Privacy Policy.
